what the heck was i doing in 2008 when the acorn was touring the U.S.? missing out. for sure.
for the past couple months i've been swooning over this band from ottawa. their multi-instrumental musical family has me wishing i was a part of their beautiful song-making.
their album glory hope mountain has been pretty epic to me through a good chunk of this year so far.
here's a live performance of one of my favorites of theirs.
fighting the fatigue....because one can not be made up of only ideals. one needs a heart to go with those ideals. one needs hopes, dreams, fears, and stories to be real.

proud to be a texan.
i'm contemplating a move back to Texas just to live in a home crafted by the brilliant mr. dan phillips. these homes are some of the most unique, well-crafted, and gorgeous creations i've seen. mr. phillips creates these homes out of materials that he collects in landfills and other people's waste. read the article here, and see his creations here. (take note of the cork floor, storybook house roof and the osage wood counter. stunning.)then there's this. back in 2005, berlin artists michael elmgreen and ingar dragset had an idea to install a prada store in the middle of the west texas desert, close to marfa. the idea was for it to be freestanding in the middle of the desert and to let it stand as a relic. one of the funders noted that, "we loved the idea of the piece being born on oct. 1 and that it will never again be maintained. if someone spray-paints graffiti or a cowboy decides to use it as target practice or maybe a mouse or a muskrat makes a home in it, 50 years from now it will be a ruin that is a reflection of the time it was made."

then there's this beautiful video by la blogotheque down in marfa, tx. jose gonzalez. wow.

"before."
savannah.
you were the stuff of dreams...

you were the stuff of dreams...

two octobers ago in the fall semester of my senior year, i decided to go to savannah. i had this lovely friend there named katherine. she's a dream. i met her while reading things like great expectations in our high school classroom & she's been this secret joy to me ever since.
i was so tired and felt a heavy burden from the lives of the girls i was mentoring at the time, so i needed a physical breakaway to be better for them. then, savannah chose me. as beautiful as savannah is....there was much more at work in my life. i think it was the timing, the sweet consistent friend who awaited me, all of her dear friends that she would share with me, and the stage of life i was in-dreaming of the things to come. i had no idea what was to come in the next year. i didn't know at the time, that san diego would be all of this.
but these images are what it looked like when i was dreaming of what would be...
my "before" shot if you will...
my "after" is constantly evolving...

we held our breath too long...

we hoped for something that couldn't be.
and now our chests ache from holding our breath for it too long.

my dear capucine...
the intoxicating delight of capucine
growing up is overrated and that is made clear here. i don't really care what anyone says, i aspire with all my heart to be like capucine when i grow up, and for all my days. i want this grace. i want this fullness of joy. most of all i want this wonder, mystery and contentment. she's captivating, and i aspire to be just like this sweet lovebug! yes, please.

1 samuel 16:7

"a man loses his fortune; he gains earnestness. his eyesight goes, it leads him to a spirituality. the girls loses her beauty; she becomes more sympathetic. we think we are pushing our own way bravely, but there is a great Hand in ours all the time." -sir arthur conan doyle- the stark munro letters
"he remembered that she was pretty, and more, that she had a special grace in the intimacy of life. she had the secret of individuality which excites--and escapes." joseph conrad-victory
"away she hurried, not beautiful, not supremely brilliant, but filled with something that took the place of both qualities-something best described as a profound vivacity, a continual & sincere response to all that she encountered in her path through life." e.m. forster-howard's end
